Coping With Anxiety
Coping with anxiety can be most daunting. When suffering from anxiety is important to remember you are not the only one. Millions of people are going through or have been through what you are now going through now. Anxiety is
bewildering enough without feeling you are alone or that nobody else could ever understand your current state of mind. Always know this just isn’t true.
Anxiety is an adrenaline fed illness. If there were not an inordinate amount of adrenaline flowing through your system, there would not be nervousness and so anxiety would wither on the vine.
To start the ball rolling toward recovery from anxiety, refuse to run from the horrible feelings it brings on. Realize that like any other illness it will run its course and then go away if it is let to. Fighting or running away from anxiety will manufacture adrenaline and thereby it will interfere with the healing process.
While totally accepting the sensations anxiety and panic are causing you to feel, picture a relaxing scene in your mind. Don’t fight away the panic, just think about this relaxing scene whenever you are able to. Perhaps the relaxing scene is somewhere you’ve been in your life or maybe just one you’ve seen in a movie or on TV. Maybe it is just a picture in your mind of you sitting comfortably and relaxed. Any one of these are fine.
Actually curing the panic or anxiety disorder involves going through panic attacks and discovering that worst has already happened to you when were anticipating panic’s arrival. The picturing of the calming scene and the acceptance of the attack are what makes panic attacks less intrusive.
Another key is to be comfortable with the timetable of recovery anxiety and panic attack symdrome have set. To try to hurry your recovery because this is the same as fighting or running way, and it is fighting panic and running away from it that makes it come on powerfully in the first place. Accepting and becoming somewhat comfortable with panic cuts its supply of strength off and allows recovery to take place.
