I have been getting panic attacks and anxiety issues since February. I constantly check my leg to make sure the vein doesn’t look any different (even though I’ve had the test to assure there is not blood clot) and if I have a chest pain or shortness of breath or anything else twinges, I completely start to freak out. I know this is in my head and that constantly thinking does not help but make it worse. Any suggestions on how to calm down?

Only my wife can calm me when I freak out. She directs my breathing, “slowly, in through the nose, out through the mouth…” that kind of thing. I know it sounds simple, but I just can’t do it myself in that state.

How To Calm a Panic/Anxiety Attack?

Panic attacks are very real and if you tried the conservative measures such as removing yourself to a quite place , cold cloths , try to take slow deep breaths and change your thinking pattern to a happy thought , event. If these or other conservative measures are not working seek medical help, there are medications that can stop these attacks within minutes.
Good luck and positive thinking!
I’ve been plagued with Panic/Anxiety Attacks for 5 years now. I’ve found that each one can be different. One solution can help for a few attacks, but then may not for others. I think the best advise I can give on it is try a variety of things. A few things I’ve tried: 1) Read a book – it will keep your mind busy. 2) Find a quiet place to sit. Close your eyes and find a “Happy” place to think about. It helps to try and find one before you have an attack. 3) Breathing technique. Close your eyes, and draw a square (or triangle) in your head, counting to each line as you draw it. Continue to Inhale for one full square and then exhale for the next square. 4) Put in a movie you love and try to relax. 5) Try to eliminate as much stress from your life as you can. 6) If you talk to a doctor there are some meds you can take when you feel an attack coming on.
Like I said, different things help at different times. I have a difficult time trying to explain my symptoms because I’m afraid it will set one off.
On a positive note, they can get better (less intense and less often). It just takes a little work.
tracy see your doctor first.i remember i usto be like that any little think usto freak me out too even a twitch in my eye. i found out my thyroid level was way out of wack by the time i was on my meds for about four or five months i was fine. pray for others too than you will get your mind off yourself.
I sometimes have pains in my chest due to what is probably a panic attack. Though it’s not as serious as what you are describing. Sounds like you might have a touch of hypochondria. I have that sometimes plus social anxiety disorder. Large crowds especially make me uncomfortable.
Do whatever needs to be done to remove yourself from any stressful situation, then go back when you feel better. Don’t worry about what won’t get done or who might be upset ’cause your not doing.. whatever. Take the time you need for yourself.
Try to think about your blessings and your family, which will make you feel better; it always does for me. Just try to relax, and it will pass.
