The amount of happiness or sadness anyone is experiencing at any time is driven, to a significant degree, by what he or she might be thinking about. Each of our worries can be powerful only if we are imagining the stuff we dread as being realized. Generally speaking, we never dread issues we have previously experienced; we only fear what believe may come about.

In other words, the end result of a certain situation may sadden us, but prior to this outcome we can only be hurt by fearing it. So, when we worry of things we can not possibly know will happen or what we do not know has happened, we essentially use dread as means to prevent sadness. Of course, this doesn’t work.

On the other hand, convincing one’s self the desired outcome is about to happen at least, postpones dread, worry and sadness, whilst visualizing the worst outcome tends to make a person experience these negative feelings unnecessarily.

In real world situations, what we fear most is rarely realized. So, our concern about it does two things. First, it can make us think we have prevented something bad from happening by worrying and also it can make us miserable unnecessarily.

New age pondering tells us negative thinking brings about those things we are fearful of. The Bible tells us to “trust in the Lord and you shall be free.” Zen teaches us to only live inside the moment and to essentially not operate on a conscious level at all. Reflecting on these philosophies makes us realize they’re all saying about the same thing.

In his 50’s psychology classic, “Psycho-Cybernetics,” Dr. Maxwell Maltz teaches us how to worry positively by using thoughts. For example: “I could make that sale and become the best sales-person of the year. Things like that do come about. Somebody is going to get the honour. It could possibly be me as well as it may be anybody else!” In short, this positive worrying is carried out by basically by dwelling on great achievable outcomes instead of bad ones.

The bottom line is without dread, panic attacks can not evolve. Constantly dwelling on points that please you will stop worry from taking hold of your thoughts. People who master this way of living will allow themselves to live a good part of their lives happily and sadness will only result if a sad event occurs; it will never come about unnecessarily.

When you ponder this, you will see how it is really is possible to go years without being unhappy if you do not anticipate terrible outcomes to future events. On the other hand, you can see that many individuals are unhappy all their lives simply simply because they constantly worry about the thing they hope will not occur.

The result of developing this habit will much more likely be a life which is happier than one where worrying rules the day.  Another great benefit of only thinking about desired outcomes is it will lead to a life where there will be very little chance of panic attack or anxiety setting in.
