Helping Agoraphobia Patient

This is not to say I believe medication to be of no use. In fact, I believe the opposite. However, the kinds of medications being used change frequently and not being a doctor, I am loath to prescribe any. Also true about medication it that it is used to make the nervous illness manageable while the patient is recovering. The medications in themselves are not agoraphobia cures. This much the same as a patient being prescribed pain killers while recovering from a broken leg.

Behavioral therapy holds the real cure for agoraphobia because, while agoraphobia patients are generally panicked when they are outside their homes, this therapy gives them a pleasant experience outside their homes. With behavioral therapy a patient is accompanied while leaving the house, sometimes at a rate of one step further each day. The turn around happens when the patient becomes impatient with this slow rate of progress and forces the issue.

When this happens, the therapist tries to keep the patient from progressing further. At this time, a role reversal of sorts takes place and the cure is near as the patient is emboldened to leave home for longer periods of time. When this takes place he/she generally becomes interested in visiting more places as well.

Medication could not achieve a thought process change of this kind.. There simply is no pill which encourages the patient to change his or her thought process or physical activity desires. Congenital therapy is very helpful in anxiety disorders such as depression because this therapy helps the patient react positively to thoughts he or she used to react negatively to.

However, agoraphobia is an illness which actually involves physically doing things. So, behavioral therapy holds the most promise for anyone who has a want to be cured of it.

The term anxiety illness usually refers to anxiety disorder. A disorder changes the way a person lives his or her life. Anxiety disoder does this because anxiety, or panic attacks can be unbearable. They render the sufferer incapable of dealing with anything other than the attack while they are present.

Sometimes anxiety illness can lead to reclusiveness or agoraphobia.

The terms introvert, social phobia and social anxiety all give rise to similar types of conditions. There is however a difference. Phobia, of course means fear of and so social phobia denotes fear of social situations. Simple shyness is generally social phobia light or social phobia in its early stages.

However, with one who is an introvert, fear is not an issue. An introvert simply works better, functions better and is genuinely happier when alone. Company tends to sap his/her energy and at certain times will make him/her miserable. For this reason an intorverted person will avoid social situations by choice but not out of fear. Introverts are often described as loners.

Of course, feeling uncomfortable with, or having ones creativity stifled by others is a neurosis, but it is not a phobia. Still, there are introverts in all walks of life. Many of them are very happy and certainly, well adjusted in many ways.

Many introverts will attend parties or family gatherings, but while they are engaged in such activities, their tendency is not to be seen as the bright people they are. In other words, they may act like or seem to be dullards when at social gatherings and few if any of the others attending these gatherings will ever realize they are, in fact quite the opposite of a dullard.

Because public schools involve a myriad of social activities and do in fact, place students into groups, some very intelligent introverts are very poor students. Sometimes, they even are mistakenly put into special classes.

These types of people will never hit their stride until they are out of school and out on their own. Because the benefits they derive from school are limited, they tend to be avid readers and are always pursuing knowledge.

In the long run, not being distracted by the need to look good to others actually give introverts an advantage over others when it comes to making discoveries or being successful in certain fields, such as writing.

Nervous diseases are usually thought of as anxiety disorder and panic attack disorder. These are the two most common nervous illnesses or diseases. Of course there are other more complicated forms of nervous illness such as depression, agoraphobia, social phobia, obsessive-compulsivedisorder and even paruresis, which is better known as shy bladder.

Basically, all types of nervous diseases are off springs of basic generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Treatments, of course are based on the anxiety complicating factor, if any and whether or not panic attacks are occuring on a regular basis.

Often a doctor will administer medication as part of a recovery plan. There are also self-help programs available.

happened, the panic victim starts to unknowingly sow the seeds of more panic simply by being on high alert for the signs of another panic attack.

Prescription medications are often taken to lessen the horror of panic attack. However, to my knowledge there is no medication that will put an end to panic anxiety disorder. Drugs can only dampen the blow a panic attack delivers.

There are things in life other than marijuana that bring people to the overwrought state where they will be supsepticle to their first panic attack. Amongst these things are; the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job or some sort of financial disaster to name a few. However, using marijuana is inviting anxiety disorder.

How to Avoid Anxiety and Stop Panic Attacks
by Ed Lathrop

anxiety and panic

Anxiety disorders are terrifying and they make life miserable for the person going through them. Not only does anxiety make daily life almost unbearable, it is also confusing and usually leaves the sufferer thinking no one else, not even the family doctor, could know what he or she is experiencing.

People who are going through anxiety disorder often hide this fact from the world because they are often afraid others will think they are going insane. Of course, this is not at all true, seeing as anxiety disorder is a condition of the nervous system and not the mind. Still, many are unaware of this fact because the adrenaline that runs through their bloodstreams tricks them into thinking their problem is insanity.

Self Help for Anxiety

Most common types of anxiety, because they are overwhelming to the sufferer, include the terrible fear that is part of a panic attack. However, they are curable.

In winning the battle with anxiety disorder the first step requires resisting the temptation to fight the feelings it brings on. Fighting only intensifies anxiety and panic. While fighting makes anxiety worse, giving in to it to helps keep it under control. This is because adrenaline pumps through an anxiety sufferer’s bloodstream and this adrenaline brings about uncomfortable feelings. When we fight these unwanted feelings we cause more adrenaline to enter our bloodstream, and so a fear ” adrenaline ” fear cycle ensues.

The second part is when suffering anxiety, you must stop trying to run away from it. An anxious state is a state where a person is pumping adrenaline throughout the body. This adrenaline pumping is a body’s natural response to fear. When you are fearful, you are in a state of fight or flight. So, obviously, when you are fighting or running away, you are causing adrenaline to pump out of control.

Trying to Fight it Off

The opposite of fighting and running away is to stand steady and acknowledge the symptoms of anxiety. Therefore, it is beneficial for anxiety sufferers to analyze their symptoms. When they do so, these symptoms will lesson in severity.

Just make sure you know you are dealing with anxiety disorder. In other words, if a symptom such as chest pains is what you are experiencing, go to a medical facility to make sure it is an anxiety problem and not a heart problem you are having. Once assured your heart is good, you can go ahead and deal with the anxiety disorder.

Without Fear, Anxiety Cannot Survive

Once the anxiety sufferer is no longer intensifying the manifestations of panic and/or anxiety, the panic attacks and anxiety itself will be become less and less in terms of both number of attacks occurring and the magnitude of those final few that come on once in a while after progress is being made.

As this happens, the sufferer gains confidence the anxiety is losing its power over him or her. The cycle the sufferer will now be in will be less nervousness ” less fear of nervousness ” even less actual nervousness. As this cycle continues the anxiety disorder with its spells of panic attacks will become less and less severe and in time, non existent.
